Role:

Project Coordinator, Building Designer & Architectural Technician

The extension and renovation to 251 South Terrace encompassed a bold second storey extension in accompaniment with 2 small ancillary accommodation spaces and the renovation to an existing commercial tenancy at the ground level.

The existing commercial tenancy dating back to the 1930’s posed several challenges by way of its heritage listing and the need for structural upgrades to cater for the new works.

Michael was tasked with developing the concept design and managing the documentation, coordination and approval processes from development application through to building permit submission. Due to the heritage listing of the existing premises, Michael met with the City of Fremantle on numerous occasions to develop a working relationship and manage what was a sensitive approval process which facilitated the subsequent development and building permit approvals.

The property is currently utilised for short stay accommodation in addition to the leased ground floor commercial tenancy and newly developed upper floor dwelling, providing the owners with 4 alternate income streams derived from an efficient, flexible and ambitious design.
